Not for readers who want soft and sweet; very much for readers who want the genre's darkest corners explored with real craft.
6. A Shadow in the Ember by Jennifer L. Armentrout — 🔥🔥🔥🔥 The Flesh and Fire series companion trilogy raises the stakes (and the heat) even further than From Blood and Ash, with gods, prophecy, and a slow-burn romance that detonates spectacularly by book two.
7. Neon Gods by Katee Robert — 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 A modern Hades and Persephone retelling that kicks off the wildly popular Dark Olympus series. Fast-paced, immediately spicy, and a great entry point if you want to skip the slow burn and get straight to the good part.
How to Choose Based on Your Mood
If you want spice with plot depth and patience, start with From Blood and Ash or Kingdom of the Wicked. If you want spice immediately and don't want to wait 300 pages for it, Neon Gods will deliver from the first act. And if you want the darkest, most intense corner of the genre, the Plated Prisoner series is where readers consistently point newcomers.
